About Ohtsuka Farm

Sustainable Livestock Farming in Harmony with Nature

Located in Nishihara-mura, Aso-gun, Kumamoto, Ohtsuka Farm spans approximately 50 hectares of rich, natural pastureland. Ohtsuka Farm raises around 2,200 of Kumamoto Akaushi (Japanese Brown) and Japanese Black (Kuroge Washu) cattle. Every step-from breeding to rearing to finishing – is handled in-house, ensuring quality, consistency, and integrity from start to finish.

But we’re not just in the business of raising cattle. We’re stewards of the land, legacy and life. Our approach is grounded in circular, environmentally responsible agriculture. Manure from our herd is carefully composted and offered freely to local farmers- closing the loop between livestock and land while supporting the very community that supports us.

Feed isn’t just nutrition; it’s a philosophy.

Our cattle are nourished with a blend of locally grown grasses and carefully curated grains – corn, barley and bran. These ingredients do more than reduce food waste – they aid digestion, temper methane emissions, and bring out the natural appetite in our animals.

The health of our cattle is a reflection of the soil they stand on, the care they receive and the feed they consume. Balancing roughage and grain, we tailor every ration to what the animal needs – drawing on years of expertise.

Ohtsuka Farm isn’t a factory. It’s a philosophy shaped by generations, soil and quiet commitment to doing things right – even when no one’s watching. This is how we create a truly regenerative, harmonious farm—where animals, people, and nature thrive together.

Farm Initiatives

Natural Grazing & Environmental Stewardship

Our pastures allow cattle and horses to move freely, encouraging natural behavior and reducing stress.
We actively maintain a balanced farm environment through tree planting, flower cultivation, and vegetable farming using compost—ensuring that productivity coexists with environmental care.

Feed & Circular Agriculture

We promote a circular agricultural system by composting cattle manure and offering it free to local farmers—supporting community agriculture and reducing environmental impact.
We also grow part of our own feed crops such as corn and forage grasses — creating nutrient-rich, sustainable feed tailored to animal health.

Sustainability & SDGs

To make the most of every resource, we ferment manure into compost and return it to our fields and local farms as fertilizer.
We also recycle forage crops within the farm, contributing to a resilient food system that aligns with long-term environmental sustainability goals.
